Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral exam includes a detailed review of your medical and dental history, blood pressure screening, thorough evaluation of soft and hard tissues, oral cancer screening, detailed charting of all existing dental restorations, and a complete periodontal charting. This evaluation, along with digital images that utilize up to 90% less radiation than conventional xrays, provides us with the information necessary to make an accurate diagnosis and periodontal classification.
Dental Implants
The dentists of Bryn Mawr Dental Associates work closely with all the local implant placement specialists to restore a missing single tooth, multiple teeth, or replace removable appliances. Replacing missing teeth with implants has gained in popularity over the last few years, and can often result in avoiding the need to damage healthy tooth structure in order to place a conventional bridge.
Teeth Bleaching
Our state-of the-art, in office Power Bleaching system can make your teeth whiter in as little as one hour. Another popular option is our home bleaching system that is custom fitted for your mouth and significantly whitens teeth in an average of two weeks. You can also consider a combination program of both systems for optimal, long term results.
Veneers
Enhancing your smile with veneers is an excellent way to correct rotated, crowded, or discolored teeth without having to have orthodontic tooth movement. We utilize the latest technologies which can often result in veneers with no need for anesthesia or removal of tooth structure.
Crowns
There are a multitude of options regarding crowns. Although porcelain fused to metal crowns were the ‘standard’ for many years, new generation all ceramic crowns can be successfully placed on most teeth with excellent esthetics and long-term results.
Fillings
The doctors of Bryn Mawr Dental Associates, in keeping with their philosophy of conservative treatment and uncompromising esthetics, only place tooth colored fillings that match your natural teeth. Although many dentists in the area continue to place amalgam (metal) fillings, tooth colored resins chemically bond to natural teeth and usually require less removal of tooth structure.
Root Canals
Although some root canals are performed by the doctors in our office, we often utilize the expertly trained endodontists (Root Canal Specialists) that we are fortunate to have nearby. We work very closely with the specialists in the area and will make the necessary referrals when we fill it is appropriate and in your best interest.
Periodontal Treatment
The dentists and hygienists in our office have all had extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of Periodontal Disease. The vast majority of our patients with gum disease are treated with the most current procedures and medications to arrest and, if possible, reverse the course of the disease. This may be as simple as more frequent recare (hygiene) intervals or involve procedures such as scaling and root planning. Regardless of the treatment required, you can rest assured that everyone in the office will work diligently to control this oral condition that has been linked to a multitude of systemic problems, such as heart attacks and strokes.
Removable Dental Prosthesis (Partials and Dentures)
Missing teeth are often replaced with fixed bridges or implants, but sometimes these are not viable options. In these cases, removable acrylic and/or metal appliances may be a good option. The doctors will discuss all the treatment options that are available so that you can make a well informed decision as to the replacement of missing teeth.
TMJ
Many people suffer from TMJ symptoms and do not realize there may be a very conservative remedy. Occlusal guards can relieve the pressure on the joint by modifying the musculature which usually will eliminate the pain and tenderness associated with this condition. Additionally, wearing a guard can save valuable tooth structure from being damaged, thereby preventing the need for additional procedures such as crowns. There are several types of occlusal guards that may be used to treat specific TMJ problems and people with excessive grinding habits. As with all procedures, the doctors and staff review all options with you in order to make the proper decision.
